Summary: The Friends of South Walton Sea Turtles (FOSWST) organization has over 100 volunteer beach ambassadors who donate over 4,000 hours each year to promote awareness of sea turtle conservation in schools, at community events, and on the beaches of Walton County reminding residents and 5+ million visitors to keep our beaches #CleanDarkFlat. These beach ambassadors also collect trash on the beach. FOSWST has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Walton County School Board with a goal of educating all 5th grade students in Walton County on the importance of sea turtle conservation. This project includes both a classroom visit and a Fun @ the Beach field trip for each 5th grade class in Walton County. Due to the population increase in Walton County there is a greater number of students to reach with our program and we need additional supplies and equipment to accomplish our goal. FOSWST also visits public charter schools and has started to visit classrooms in Okaloosa County. This project will support FOSWST's work in local elementary schools.
