Summary: Friends of the Carr Refuge supports the mission of the USFWS Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge. In May 2021, The Archie Carr Working Group identified that standardized signage across the mosaic Refuge is outdated or lacking. The Interpretive signage project for the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, Indian River County project, includes printing, and installment of 3 outdoor kiosk stations installed at the remaining public access locations along the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge in Indian River County specifically; Ambersands Beach Access, Treasure Shores Park and Golden Sands Park. Kiosks will be similar to those installed in 2022 in the Brevard County portion of the Carr Refuge. Funds will be used to purchase 3 outdoor kiosk stations and the printing of 6 interpretive signs to be used within the kiosks. This project intends to replace the deteriorated sea turtle nesting regulation signs at public access sites that were placed in 2009. The goal of the new interpretive signage is to 1) instruct the public on proper beach behavior while visiting the Archie Carr Refuge, 2) educate the public on sea turtle conservation and biology, 3) educate the public about the Refuge's history and purpose and 4) complete the standardized signage across the mosaic refuge. The kiosk stations will provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance across the entire Refuge attracting visitors/beachgoers toward the included interpretive signage.
