Summary: Each season, St. Pete Beach sea turtle conservation is challenged by the number of tourists flocking to our beaches. Named Trip Advisor's #1 Beach in America in 2021, the number of visitors increased, along with a need to educate hotel guests and local owners on the need to maintain clean, dark and flat beaches. More than 19 vendors and 8 renourishment project managers need to be contacted each day after patrol so they can begin their work. In addition, supplies to protect nests from predators (self-releasing screens) means a reliable Utility Transport Vehicle (UTV) is a necessity since the timing does not allow for foot patrol. Our well-used UTV is beyond repair and needs to be replaced to allow for early morning patrol in a timely manner. This project supports partial funding to purchase a Polaris UTV (or similar vehicle).
