Grant Amount: $25,200.00
Completion Date: 2025-05-28

Summary: This project will allow for the purchase of vetinary equipmnent and will let the Miami Zoo provide optimal medical care to sea turtle hospital patients, we work to reduce human-related mortality of all life history stages of Florida's marine turtles and promote the health of Florida's marine turtle populations. Additionally, by housing sea turtles for rehabilitation, we can educate the public who visit our facility about Florida's sea turtles and the ways they can promote the recovery of sea turtle populations.

Results: We have been able to purchase and receive all three items. We placed smaller versions of our Sea Turtle License Plate sign used at the Sea Turtle Hospital (approved during last years grant cycle and attached) on these smaller pieces of equipment. We have not had any issues with these purchases and we have been able to utilize the Chemistry analyzer for cases, which has helped determine treatment needs quicker than our off site laboratory vendors can thus allowing the turtles to receive quicker care. The large transport tub has been a great asset for our current larger boat strike green turtle. We have used the tub to transport her for CT scans, as well as use this tub for her weekely wound care and acupuncture sessions.
