Grant Amount: $8,082.00
Completion Date:
Summary: The Sea Turtle Care and Conservation Specialists (STCCS), Southeast Regional Sea Turtle Network (SERSTN), and Dr. Maria Chadam, DVM, will pilot a sea turtle care and conservation professional development workshop in southeast Florida. The workshop will target DVMs, CVTs, and other qualified sea turtle rehabilitation staff. The workshop will occur at the Marine Environmental Education Center. STCCS will create the curriculum and infrastructure for the workshops in partnership with SERSTN and Dr. Maria Chadam, and will assist during the workshop. SERSTN will lead the workshop, ensuring activities and timelines are met on time, and will also manage program materials and workshop setup. The workshop will be led by Dr. Chadam, who earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998 and is world-renowned for her groundbreaking care methods. The pilot aims to bring together sea turtle experts to advance the expertise of surrounding animal and sea turtle professionals, creating local skill-building opportunities to aid in the care and conservation of endangered sea turtle species such as Kemps ridley, loggerheads, green, and hawksbills. By advancing professional development opportunities dedicated to caring for and conserving sea turtles, this pilot is filling a critical gap in strengthening the information-sharing and coordination of animal experts in the U.S. to care for sea turtles.
