Summary: Friends of the Carr Refuge (FOCR) supports the mission of the USFWS Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge. The Archie Carr Working Group identified that standardized signage across the mosaic Refuge is lacking. The Interpretive Signage on the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge project includes the design, printing, and installment of 8 outdoor kiosk stations with interpretive signage installed at various public access locations along the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge in Brevard County. This project will purchase 8 outdoor kiosk stations. This project intends to replace the deteriorated sea turtle nesting regulation signs at public accesses that were placed in 2009. The kiosk stations will provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance across the entire Refuge attracting park/beachgoers toward the included interpretive signage. Results: The project is complete and 8 interpretive signs (kiosks) were installed within the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge. The kiosks 1) instruct the public on proper beach behavior while visiting the Archie Carr Refuge, 2) educate the public on sea turtle conservation and biology, and 3) educate the public about the Refuge's history and purpose. The 8th and final kiosk station was installed on June 9, 2024. The ribbon cutting ceremony was
held on Sept. 24, 2023 to celebrate the installation of the first kiosk. Previous metal signs found at each park location have been removed and recycled. Kiosk stations are now at Coconut Point Park, Ponce de Leon Park, Chris' Break Beach Access, River Drive Beach Access, Marks Landing, Bonsteel Park, River Oaks Road Beach Access, and "Spanish House" Beach Access.
