Summary: This project will develop and implement a cross curricular unit with kindergarten through fifth grade students that focuses on sea turtles, their habitat, and the need for preservation and conservation. In this unit students will participate in various age-appropriate activities that will give them background knowledge about sea turtles, and the importance of preservation and conservation. Students will also participate in activities that specifically address strategies that can be easily implemented to assist sea turtles during nesting season, and construct maps and graphs of location and number of nests. Additionally, students will utilize the design process to design a device to assist in reducing the number of turtles caught as by catch. This unit will integrate skills in the areas of science, math and engineering.
