Summary: The Brevard Zoo Sea Turtle Healing Center (STHC) has been open since 2014 to serve a vital role in sea turtle rehabilitation. We have aided many ailing sea turtles in Brevard County, which has over 70 miles of beach, multiple inlets, and inland waterways. Sea turtle rehabilitation continues to be a strong need locally and throughout the State of Florida. The STHC is prepared to grow to meet this need. We are submitting this funding request to expand our facility and improve existing filtration and sanitation systems. This will allow us to increase our capacity for intake of rehabilitating sea turtles.
Results: The project competed the installation of a new non-FP tank system, including three fiberglass tanks on a concrete pad and roof coverage. The water filtration system was upgraded on the existing non-FP tank system, and a new 500-gallon salt mixing tank was installed.
