Summary: Save-A-Turtle of the Florida Keys will purchase a trailer and power it with a solar panel system so it can be used as an education trailer. An education trailer will help resolve the challenge of reaching a diverse population whose geography consists of a 125-mile-long island chain. The solar powered education trailer will provide a turtle friendly lighting display, a television which will display sea turtle educational videos, colorful graphics depicting the behaviors and life cycles of sea turtles, and exterior signage identifying it as an endangered sea turtle education unit. The trailer will be used at a variety of public venues including state park events, national wildlife refuge events, national marine sanctuary events, community events, and elementary school events. The solar powered education trailer will also provide storage and mobility of educational materials that will be displayed and distributed at the many public events in the community. As a major tourist destination, the Florida Keys attracts a variety of visitors who are unaware of the human impacts on sea turtles. A mobile education trailer will reach a variety of audiences including schools, fishermen, visitors, and locals.
