Grant: 17-023E
Project Title: An Audio Tour of Sea Turtles: Sounds and Stories
Project Manager: Jack Rudloe
Organization: Gulf Specimen Marine Lab (Non-Profit Organization)
Grant Amount: $15,462.00
Completion Date: 2020-11-13

Summary: A new audio exhibit An Audio Tour of Sea Turtles: Sounds and Stories will be developed to enhance existing sea turtle displays at Gulf Specimen Marine Lab and Aquarium. With stories, sounds and music, it will complement the live displays, sea turtle models, graphic signs and video programs. Installing eight pairs of speakers, three amplifiers and other audio equipment throughout the facility will enable us to present subtle conservation messages over soothing background music. Play on demand buttons will be strategically placed over touch tank exhibits, such as horseshoe crabs, explaining that they are the prey of loggerhead sea turtles. Messages will help Florida sea turtles by identifying the five species, where they live, what they eat and what eats them. Visitors will also be able to hear stories and adventures excerpted from the books and National Geographic and Smithsonian Magazine articles by Jack and Anne Rudloe, founders of Gulf Specimen Marine Lab and Aquarium.

Results: All project tasks were completed.
