Grant: 03-E16E
Project Title: Barrier Island Ecosystem Center: Night Vision Scopes for Universal Access
Project Manager: Ray Mojica
Organization: Brevard County Environmentally Endangered Lands Program (Florida Government)
Grant Amount: $9,980.00
Completion Date: 2004-07-26
Summary: The Brevard County Environmentally Endangered Lands (EEL) Program will purchase 4 high quality, weather resistant, night vision scopes so that persons who are unable to access the beach for guided turtle walks can witness sea turtle nesting from a deck overlooking the beach which is accessible from the Barrier Island Ecosystem Center.
Results: Night vision scopes were purchased to allow mobility impaired individuals to view turtle nesting activities from the deck at the Barrier Island Ecosystem Center. Due to the delays in the construction timeline, the center is currently scheduled to open in early 2006. The scopes will be made available to members of the Archie Carr Working Group in support of sea turtle conservation activities related for the time period leading to the opening of the center. Due to the reduction in the price of the scopes between the time of the grant application and the purchase of the scopes, we were able to purchase an additional scope, for a total of five AMT NIGHT SHADOW III (3rd Gen) night vision scopes.
