Summary: The City of Marco Island Sea Turtle Protection Community Education Outreach Program: Continuing in educating the general public, an informational commercial and reprinting the brochure will be provided. During educational presentations, the educational materials will be given to the students to stimulate interest and remind them and their families of sea turtle protection within their community.
Results: The following educational materials were produced with this grant: (1) an existing 60-second commercial describing sea turtle nesting, hatching and Florida's sea turtle conservation efforts, was aired 12 times a day during the nesting season; (2) 5,000 brochures (pictured at right) were produced with information about the loggerhead sea turtle, the most common species nesting on Marco Island; (3) 5,000 magnets (pictured at right) with simple information about protecting sea turtles during nesting and hatching; (4) 1,000 key chains (pictured at right) with information about how to report a dead or injured sea turtle; and (5) 1,000 bookmarks (pictured at right) with simple information about protecting sea turtles during nesting and hatching.
