Grant: 26-063C
Project Title: Clinical Laboratory Equipment to Enhance Patient Care and Diagnostics
Project Manager: Samantha Clark
Organization: Sea Turtle Care and Conservation Specialists (Non-Profit Organization)
Grant Amount: $14,640.76
Completion Date:
Summary: The Sea Turtle Care & Conservation Specialists (STCCS) will purchase equipment to help establish a fully equipped in-house clinical laboratory system that will significantly enhance diagnostic capabilities, patient care, and future research collaborations, and help provide reliable access to clean, natural seawater within our newly permitted sea turtle hospital. Since August 15, 2025, STCCS has housed over 1,800 sea turtles, demonstrating a critical need for rapid, reliable medical diagnostics and sample storage. The equipment will enable, in-house bloodwork, sample processing, cytology, and provide essential seawater pumping and transfer equipment including pumps, hoses, fittings, and accessories to efficiently move delivered seawater into our systems. These improvements will improve treatment and support higher rehabilitation success rates for Florida's threatened and endangered marine turtles. By strengthening our medical and saltwater system infrastructure, this project directly advances statewide conservation goals and enhances our ability to provide timely, high-quality care to sea turtles in need.
