Summary: This project continues UCF's work with database specialists (Skeleton Key) to update and streamline our existing FileMaker Pro sea turtle database. The UCF Marine Turtle Research Group has collected enormous amounts of data over 40+ years along some of the most important stretches of nesting beach and developmental in-water habitats in the United States and world. We provide field-based educational and research opportunities to students, and scientific advisory service to local, state, and international science and management entities. The data we collect have direct and important conservation, scientific, and management impact on Florida's sea turtles and North Atlantic sea turtle populations.Year 1 funding allowed us to begin streamlining our complex data formats for multiple Brevard County nesting beaches. By the end of Year 1, the new nesting survey database module in our database will accept data and generate monthly reports for each survey beach, as well as export nest survey data into a spreadsheet-compatible format. Due to the complexity of our data entry and the fine-scale details required for fully integrating our beach survey data into the existing database, the remaining Year 1 budget will be spent before we can integrate structured report, table, and figure outputs, as well as updates to the existing tagged turtle and nest database components. These remaining items will be the focus of Year 2. Ultimately, the updates will improve database reporting, query, and analysis capacity and allow us to maximize its research, management, and conservation potential. Results:
