Project Title: Sea Turtle Hospital LED Surgical Lights
Project Manager: Bette Zirkelbach
Organization: Hidden Harbor Marine Environmental Project (The Turtle Hospital) (Non-Profit Organization)
Grant Amount: $3,145.65
Completion Date: 2023-10-23

Summary: The Turtle Hospital will purchase new dual ceiling mounted LED surgical lights for the hospital’s surgery suite to replace antiquated 90 W halogen surgical lights currently in use at the hospital. The Turtle Hospital has been treating sick and injured sea turtles for over 35 years and continues to be a primary rehabilitation facility for sea turtles. The Turtle Hospital’s veterinarians perform exams and surgical procedures in the hospital’s surgery suite. The surgery suite’s existing surgical lights radiate heat and do not produce a bright light, in addition the plastic housing is cracking, and pieces are falling off. The new surgical lighting has LED bulbs. LED bulbs use less energy to produce crisper, cooler illumination that will give our surgeons the visibility they need to make effective diagnostic decisions. The existing surgical lights have been in use at the Turtle Hospital for over 20 years. New LED surgical lights for the hospital’s surgical suite will assure seamless treatment of sea turtles at the Turtle Hospital.

Results: The Turtle hospital purchased and contracted an electrician to install a duel ceiling mounted LED surgical light to replace the antiquated halogen surgical lights. A ceiling penal had to be replaced due to the difference in base sizes of the lights, the cost of which was covered by the Turtle Hospital.
