Summary: This project will allow Gumbo Limbo Nature Center to replace and upgrade its current outdoor lighting display and purchase a permanent version of STC’s Traveling Light Display. The outdoor display will demonstrate good and bad types of fixtures and/or bulbs to provide environmentally friendly lighting. Sea Turtle friendly lighting will be discussed, as well as advantages of this type of lighting for human safety, cost savings, and reducing sky glow.
Results: The project approved for this grant in the amount $7,050 is for one stand alone display and one
wall display. Gumbo Limbo Nature Center Inc, the grantee, has added a second wall display to
the project with additional funding from the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center Inc. The contract with
the company Wilderness Graphics for all three displays was completed and was further modified
for visual additions to the displays for a total of $12,700 with all the additional cost funded by /
Gumbo Limbo Nature Center Inc. All three displays have been completed, delivered to Gumbo
Limbo and mounted at the Center.
