Project Manager: Dale Williams / Tara Dodson
Organization: St. Johns County (Florida Government)
Grant Amount: $750.00
Completion Date: 2008-12-10
Summary: Promotion of sea turtle conservation in St. Johns County through the design, production and distribution of education and conservation materials. The educational program will produce and distribute the following materials in St. Johns County: Six (6) monofilament recycling bins to promote further conservation of sea turtles; and Three (3) transportation billboards to reach mass members of the public and to further educate.
Results: Beach Services teamed up with the St. Johns County Naturalist and Boy Scout Troop #345 to purchase and install the Bins. The County Naturalist was processing a separate recycling grant and was placing the same bins with signage at locations other than County beaches. A total of 6 bins were installed at the following locations; South Ponte Vedra Park, Usina Access Ramp, North Beach, Surfside Access Ramp, Vilano Access Ramp, and Porpoise Point Beach Access Ramp. The Council On Aging Bus sea turtle advertisement will be installed for a total of 13 months. This will extend the advertising into the 2009 nesting season. The announcement of both installations was done so in the June edition of the Share The Beach Newsletter which is sent to several individuals via email and posted on the St. Johns County's Habitat Conservation website.(Author: Tara Dodson)
